Abstract

Abstract. This paper, is a proposal to improve the studies of the neurophysiological mechanisms of clinical hypnosis, mindfulness and meditative states, to improve the psychological rehabilitation of consciousness and awareness, in chronic illnesses, disable and elderly patients.

What is consciousness? Contemporary neurologists and philosophers often describe consciousness as an emergent phenomenon with correlates to underlying neurophysiology, biochemistry and cognition.

Our ordinary state of consciousness is not something natural or given, but a highly complex construction, a specialized tool for coping with our environment and the persons in it.

How can consciousness be improved in chronic illnesses, disabled and elderly people? May we help a rehabilitation of consciousness and knowledge in these patients, with clinical hypnosis and/or mindfulness and meditative states?

Recent researches suggests that clinical hypnosis and meditation improve cognition, by increasing attention span.
